Although the Las Vegas economy has seen some improvement in 2011, it’s far from healthy. As the national and world economy continues to stall, the gambling industry is really feeling the hit. Not only have casino jobs been lost, but construction is at a halt. It’s bad for the people of Las Vegas, but it’s good for the budget conscious traveler. There are some great hotel deals waiting for you in Las Vegas.

Did You Ever Think You Could Afford The MGM Grand?

When you think of the MGM Grand, you think of big shows with people like Celine Dion. It’s all glamour and excitement, and typically, it might not be in the budget gambler’s price range. If you’re willing to be flexible with your travel, you can actually book a room for around $80. That’s a whole lot more nickels for the slots than you thought.

Even elegant properties like The Venetian are affordable when booked during certain days of the month. You can party and gamble like a high roller and keep more money in your pocket for the casinos. Check out the various traveler reviews to also pick up on inexpensive places to eat. Vegas is about gambling, no casino wants you to spend all of your money on food and lodging.

Discounts Should Persist For Awhile

The economic forecast for Las Vegas predicts that casino growth will stall until around 2015. Until then, don’t expect any new properties. As the city works to recover, expect these great discounts to continue. If you miss today’s deal, just wait until next week for a new one.

Even If You Cheat, the Odds Are Against You

Blackjack is part of the casino games.

Nobody likes to lose; especially when it comes to money. On the other hand, everybody wants to win. Casinos know both of these truisms, and they are going to try very hard to make you a loser. If you win too much, they’re going to think you’re a cheater. Therefore, if you think you’re going to cheat the odds, think again. There’s somebody watching you.

Is Card Counting Cheating?

Technically, card counting is not cheating. However, only really smart people, with extreme concentration are good at it. Here’s the rub. Those really smart people who are really good at it work for the casino. They can spot a card counter in no time. If you do it, you will be uninvited to the game. Statistically, card counting is the only game that you can outsmart, but the odds of getting caught are definitely stacked against the gambler.

Math and Probability

Based on all kinds of crazy mathematical formulas, people have punked the gambling systems. The problem is that anyone winning that big is right in the security cross-hairs. Even if they can’t prove you did it because you’re so much smarter than them, they’ll still say “thank you for your patronage and good-bye forever.”

Dumb Luck Is More Fun

If gambling is your thing, then do it for fun. Simply take a lucky rabbit’s foot with you to the casino. Instead of winning it all, just try not to lose it all. Don’t be wooed by that big win. When it happens, pocket it and run. The odds are totally stacked in the casino’s favor if you keep gambling.

Texas Should Change Its Gambling Laws

MS Queen Victoria Gambling

Image via Wikipedia

Texas is probably the biggest untapped population for the gambling industry. Currently, buses of people from the Lone Star State head to neighboring Louisiana to gamble. With the budget in crisis, it seems like it might be time to allow casinos and slots in one of the most populated states in the Union.

Strong Language To Make Gambling Revenues Pay For Education

Since Texas is a conservative state, the only way a gambling law would be passed is if there was strong language in the bill that poured the casino and slot income into education. Just making the promise to spend game money on the kids won’t be enough. In Texas, the lawmakers better sign it over to the kids in blood.

Statistics show that the states that promised their lottery revenues to education woes weren’t so successful. General funds are murky at best. The gambling revenue has to go directly to an untouchable education fund. If that was the case, many people who historically oppose changing gambling laws would probably reconsider.

Everything’s Bigger in Texas, and That Would Include the Casinos

You can bet that casinos in Texas would be as big and spectacular as the state itself. It’s mythological history and personality would be a huge draw for people all over the world. Whether it’s slots, poker, or other games, a Texas casino would be something to rival Las Vegas. Currently, Texas allows horse and dog racing. It wouldn’t take much to expand to a casino style event.

Once citizens of the state get burdened with their education bill, expect the gambling laws in Texas to change.

Learn Craps Through the Odds

Craps Dice

Image via Wikipedia

Craps is ultimately a game of chance because no one can predict or create a certain outcome when rolling two dice. Online craps is slightly different than traditional casino craps. To play online craps, it is essential to understand the odds.

Combinations Are Key

This game can be won by understanding the various combinations of numbers that can be rolled on two dice and betting appropriately. This sounds more complicated than it is, so here is a quick summary of dice combinations.

The numbers two and 12 are the hardest numbers to achieve because each have only one dice combination. The numbers three and 11 have two combinations. In the middle with three combinations are 10 and four; and there are four combinations that give you a five or nine. There are five combinations for rolling the numbers six and eight; where seven has the most dice combinations, a total of six.

Place Your Bets

As in most games of chance, the best bets to make are those with the best odds. In the game of craps, the harder it is to roll a particular number, the higher the payout; but always placing your bets on these numbers means your chances of winning are reduced. To offset your loses, consider playing craps online where there is a casino bonus.

Don’t forget the Pass Line, Come, and Buy Bets all offer various payouts for rolling different combinations (other than seven or 11). So if you are just learning, perhaps you should start there.

As you play, remember that you are not guaranteed a win, regardless of how well you understand the combinations.
